Laser scores are a little skewed because David Keane lent his boat to Shannon for three races and Jack Clark lent his to Dave Silverman for two.

Foxy had a stow away crew, a baby chameleon who found the gooseneck bracket a comfy protected spot to enjoy a day on the water. He made it back to shore in one piece and scurried off to tell his friends about the adventure.

There is nothing more fun than one design small boat racing and all it takes to be good at it, is time on the water. Ten weeks of Thursday practices and Sunday races are starting to pay off for new racers Ron Osler and Steve Jones.  Both had good starts and were staying in contact with Sunday's fleet leaders. Get ready to helm your own boat by attending the Thursday 1630 hours seminars and practices.
The Small Boat Fleet's 3rd Hot Dog Roast, and first ever Summer Series Racing Awards are September 21.  MYC Fleet and Sunfish Fleet 669 will serve up the beans, coleslaw, and hot dogs.  Those attending please bring a side dish to share.

News Flash:  James Leibl finally bought a new car!

Sunday, August 10, 2008 Small Boat Race Results

The bell of laughter heard on the water Sunday emanated from Lauren, the six year old daughter of Shannon Fox.  Lauren took a turn racing on the Sunfish and Laser driven by Shannon, and her grandparents Nancy and John.  Bill Haberland, who sailed with Noah, showed he is still one of the areas best light air sailors.  Bill finished second out of seventeen sailors.  The 2008 World Radial Laser champion, James Leibel was first.

Fifteen boats sailed out of the harbor for some Sunday morning sailing. Eleven of them made it to the start line. The first race of the day was a throw out. RC, Dim Witted, had set two windward marks. One more reason to volunteer for race committee (sign up sheet is the calendar on the MYC bulletin board). Within a minute of the start of the second race, the wind changed from light and shifty to a twenty plus knot breeze. Eight of the fifteen boats on the water capsized. The racing was canceled for the day.
So far, twenty six sailors have turned out for the first two races of the summer series and the after race hot dogs and beer. A lot of them are new to the sport. Continue to sail and race. Time on the water makes for a better sailor. From now until the end of the year the sailing will only get better, so fix up that garage boat and join the fun.

Seventeen Small Boats Out For Sunday Race and Hot Dogs

What looked to be a rainy day wash out, by race time, had turned into a great day for the start of the Summer Small Boat Race Series.  For much of the day, Dave Silverman led the eleven Sunfish around the course.  Michelle Davis, fresh from the World Master Laser Championships in Australia, scored six bullets in the Laser races.  Jan Crawford and Barbara McIntyre were the class of the Phantoms.  Half of the twenty sailors on the course were new to small boat racing.  We hope to see them all out again July 27.
As good as the racing was, the after race gourmet hot dog feast was even better.  The shrimp pasta, mandarin orange and almond salad, deviled eggs, potato salad, baked beans, brownies, and fruit and cheese were the perfect accompaniment to the hot dogs.  Thirty five sailors, families, and guests enjoyed the food.
"Thank you",  PRC Jim Henry, Rochelle Yates, Jim Miller and John Martin and to MYC Fleet, and Sunfish Fleet 669 .  We will do it again with our third Hot Dog Roast scheduled for the Summer Series finale September 21.  Until then, small boat practice and on course instruction is every Thursday at 1630 hours.  Be there or be square...rigged!

Seventeen boats left the docks in a light drizzle but by race time the conditions were ideal.  Following the races a mixed crowd of thirty some,  racers, watchers, and race committee enjoyed  a gourmet hot dog feast.

December 28, 2008

This was probably the nicest sailing day of 2008. Perfect 6-9 kt winds, sunny skies, neither too hot or too cold. We had eight Lasers and five
Sunfish out sailing
and the races were very tight as you can see from the picture. Thanks to Jim & Becky Henry, Rochelle Yates, & Nancy Fox on the Signal boat,
 and Pat and
Angela Lambert for setting the marks.

No Sunfish sailed at all.

It was one of those days that looked to be a total washout, but 7 Laser

Sailors came anyway. At race time, the rain stopped and the winds cooperated

with a breeze that varied from 5 to 12 mph.

Before racing began, David Hartman gave a short demonstration of how to set

up the boats for the new guys. We then set up the course and ran rabbit

starts for the 7 races. Racing was very tight with boats rounding the marks

in a close pack all afternoon. With winds predicted to be 16-18 or higher,

Shannon made the mistake of not bringing his full rig sail and suffered with

the radial. Dave Albury Jr. from Sebastian joined us for the first time and

showed some good speed at times. He will be tough to beat when he gets the

boat figured out.

While we caught some showers before and after sailing, Sunday racing was great with 10-12 kt winds from the East.
Hopefully the light summer winds are past us and we will have good breezes for the rest of the year. Harry joined us
later in the day and managed to shake things up in the last race.

Racing was close even though the finishing order didn't change much.
