After running races all year, it was great to have Jim Edwards running them today so that I could sail. Being out of practice showed,
 but I had a great time and improved as the day went on.

Races were postponed for an hour to let the thunder squalls blow through.

The first race was sailed in 14kts and the wind built to about 18 as the day went on. As John McNeil usually puts it, everyone was
screaming on the reaches and the boats were moving fast too. Some great waves to surf on during the runs and it took a lot of
concentration to keep the bows from burying in the next wave.

With regattas coming up the Race Committee opted to give the fleet plenty of starts and mark rounding practice. Before racing began
at 1300, we held a series of practice starts on a shortened line.

The line was lengthened for the races and we sailed 8 short races with each race averaging about 9 minutes.

We had another nice day on the river with easterly winds in the 10-12 knot range. Much lower than the predicted 15-20.
It was also the first trip out for our new (to MYC) committee boat, a 19 foot Key Largo.

The wind was shifting through about 30 degrees and it seemed like everyone found the wrong side of the course at least once.

Another beautiful day on the river but the wind was very shifty making it very difficult to set a course. There was however enough
wind to sail and James Liebl graciously offered to hold a clinic for the other 6 sailors that came. The concentration was on proper
technique for roll tacking and in positioning for leeward mark roundings. Everyone got some one on one coaching time with James.
Even the boat driver (myself) learned a lot and had a great time.

Sunday Series, March 11, 2007

Today's turnout was small since so many of our fleet members are away at the Sunfish Midwinter's. However
6 hearty Sunfish sailors and 2 Laser braved the beautiful sunny skies and perfect 9-12 kt breeze to sail at MYC.
The trapezoidal course once again got people planing quickly and we got off 6 short races. The Taylor family
dominated the day with Cindy easily taking the Sunfish Class and Mike taking the Lasers.

Sunfish   Laser  

The winds were SE at 12-15kts with a few gusts in the 18-20 range. We set a trapezoidal course with windward
leg, a beam reach, a run, a second beam reach and beat to the finish line. This gave everyone much faster
reaches than you get with the triangle. We got great comments on the course, but we really wore everyone out
with it.
