Oct 9-10 Jurassic Park Race Manatee Cove held the Jurassic Park Regatta 9 and 10 Oct. 5 races were scheduled with 3 on Sat and 2 on Sun. Cookout on the deck after Sun's races.
For leading the pack all 5 races:
Overall--Craig Fox on Porpoise
!st
place---Bill Sweeting on Idle Mine
2nd
place--Bob Norway on Adaigo
3rd
place--Robert Twigg on Sea Fire
August 21 Race Results Adagio-1st, Gipasina-2nd, R'Matey-3rd A pesky critter named Charley---no, not Charlie Clinchard, interrupted the scheduled race on Aug 14th. So we pushed it back a week and lucky for us, Susan also pushed back Pancake Breakfast too. We were all worried that we’d miss pancakes---just for ballast, you know!! I arrived at 9:30 and only 5 boats had signed up, a little disappointing but considering the change, not too bad. As I devoured my pancakes, Bill Sutherland said 3 more had signed up and by the time my pancakes were history, a total of 12 had signed in. We only ran a 2 mile course so a good start was important and for a change a little wind was blowing. Charlie Chlinchard sailing his 12 foot dinghy, Passing Wind and Ms CC were right on the line as the committee boat crew signaled the start. And about 1 minute later here came Amazing Grace blasting through to take the lead all the way to the finish line. Porpoise soon passed Passing Wind and Ms CC to follow Amazing Grace to the finish line. As the race among the “others” progressed, the wind became lighter and started to shift around. This made it hard to lay a course for the first mark. Bob Norway played the wind shifts and put Adagio on a good line with Barry on Gipasina doing the same. Skipper Ed listened to what his crew Butch was saying and put R’Matey in good position or was it that he didn’t listen to Butch? Anyway R’Matey came in 3rd with Gipasina 2nd and Adagio 1st. Charlie’s Passing Wind was right among the leaders but he didn’t score as Passing Wind { I like writing that} has to establish a base handicap over 3 races. Charlie said he likes Passing Wind and will be in the next 2 races. Did I say that right??? Next month we race on the 11th, race meeting right after Pancake Breakfast. On a sad note , Frank Gannon announced that his and Mary’s O’Day 27 “ Delphinus” is for sale. Frank’s doctor has told him no more sailing. The sail fleet is gonna miss them on the course. They are true competitors and good people. A reminder that Jurassic Park Regatta time is fast approaching. Susan is getting T-shirts and I’m working on some unusual courses. July 19 Race Results
The MCM race on July 10th -----Adagio 1st, Ad Astra 2nd,
Delphinus 3rd.
Next race on Aug 14th! June 12 Race Results Sung to “Summer Time”
Summer
time and the sailing is easy While the fleet watched from afar, Craig Fox, Steve Rutz and Bill Aitken caught a breeze on the west end of the 4 mile course and soon virtually disappeared as they rounded the course. By the time the sea breeze kicked in, those 3 had finished and were enjoying watching the rest of us fight it out for positions 4 to 12. Robert Twigg finally got a rudder for his boat so he could take home the Dragging Anchor Award. Next month we race on the 10th and for the rest of the summer—water guns are the weapons of choice. Don’t forget the 4th of July fireworks and enjoy the breezes you catch.
1 – Adagio (Bob Norway)
On 8 May the Mantee Cove Sailors awakened to a beautiful May
morning. Not a cloud to be seen and the sun was shining beautifully, however
the wind was hardly blowing, just a breath of wind barely moved the flags
flying on the deck. Needless to say, one could hear murmurs about we had
better wait until afternoon to have our scheduled sailboat race. Oh ye of
little faith!! While we were enjoying our great french toast breakfast,
Mother Nature blessed us with a wind of around 10 to 15 knots. It was
certainly enough to conduct a sailboat race.
Eleven skippers signed up for the race. And race they did.
The race started promptly at 1100, with a great start. This race was possibly
the most evenly matched race run in several years. The six nautical mile
course was covered by nine of the eleven boats with less than a twenty minute
spread. After Bob Norway cranked the times into his laptop, which applied the
handicaps to the times, the results were: Bob Norway, skippering Adagio,
captured the first place trophy; Lance skippering Fancy Nancy, without the
tutoring of his Grandpa, Rich, took second place honors, and Fred in Sea Hawg
received the third place cup. The golden Dragging Anchor was awarded to Frank
skippering Delphinus. What a great race!
Our thanks to Fred Bozack and Art Knudsen for their help in
setting the course marker.
The June race will be on 12 June. Hopefully we'll have a large
field and some more great sailing conditions. See you in the race!!
1 - Norm LeMoine-Manana 1 – Porpoise (Craig Fox) Sweetheart Race Results - Feb 14 Eleven boats entered the Sweetheart Race at MCM - Patrick AFB on the 14th. 1st - Cruise Power - O'Day 28 Race meetings will be after
Pancake breakfast or 1000, except offshore race meetings will be at TGIF at
1900. All races will count for points toward the Chief Gaskin’s Cup.
(Schedule is subject to change.) ** Denotes cookout after the race.
